Over Zoom, my writing coach says to me, “That moment you explain how you disappeared in the ceiling while coping with abuse in your Kitchen Mess chapter is great. It’s hard. It’s great, though. Plus, that cheese ball. I know kids who have squished cheese in their hands. Ugh. It’s so nasty,” I acknowledge his words and affirm kids can be peculiar. I promise him to level up relatable kid memories, starting with an experience about my first love.
